Winning the Green Card and moving to America | #TravelInterview

This is not a normal travel interview. It is a story of happiness, of a dream come true.

I got in touch with Alice, travel blogger at Explore Always, just a few days ago and the first thing she told me was “Vale, I’ve got exciting news! I’m sure you’ll want to interview me. “

And here we are. I couldn’t wait for her to share her answers with you!

What’s the big news?

I won the Green Card lottery!

How did you find out? Tell us all about it!

The results came out at 6 pm on May 2nd.

Because so many people were accessing the website at the same time, I could not check the results right away.

On the morning of May 3, half-asleep I turned the computer on, logged onto the website and a letter addressed to me appeared, “You have been randomly selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program ” it stated … my heart was beating so fast, I couldn’t believe it! I had been selected among billions of people in the world! I read and reread the same words in disbelief, I ran to wash my face to be sure I wasn’t still asleep and dreaming because my lifelong dream had come true.

Explain how you did, who can do it, where, how and when. In short: everything!

Every year the US government organizes a Lottery to win a Green Card visa. The Green Card is very popular amongst those who want to work without any constraint in the US and live the American dream. Registration is free on the official website and can only be done every year in the month of October.

There are some countries that are excluded from this lottery, like Canada, UK etc… because over the past few years more than 50,000 people have entered the country.

The results are published in May and the probability to win is 0.5%.

Once the winners are announced, a file number is assigned and a form must be filled out with lots of questions. After that, you have to wait to be summoned to the Consulate of Naples for an interview with the consul, who will decide if you are fit to receive the Green Card.

When will you leave and with whom?

I will leave on my own. On the one hand, this scares me a lot but on the other, it gives me an immense energy and a crazy adrenaline.

I cannot wait to embark on this new chapter of my life.

As to the departure date, we still do not know anything because the process is still very long (it takes about a year). I would really like to move to Florida and throughout the year I will look for contacts, a job and a home!

How are you going to prepare? How long do you intend to stay there and what are you going to do once you arrive?

Maybe for a lifetime, who knows!

Once you have the Green Card, you cannot leave the United States for more than 6 consecutive months a year.

The Green Card given to you by the Government of the United States through the Lottery is valid for life and after 5 years, you can apply for US Citizenship.

Are you afraid of this radical change?

It scares me to death but destiny wanted me to take this road, the same I dreamed of as a child.

What do you expect from this experience?

Who knows? I expect everything and nothing.  Of course, I will keep you informed ❤

What else is there to say but “Good luck Alice”!

We look forward to hearing more about your adventures.

Valentina
